Everyone in Detroit has a Kid Rock story. Tom sat next to him at a strip club. Bryan’s band recorded in the studio at the same time as him before he was well known (ask Bryan for the rest of the story sometime). Jeanette played pool at his house and broke his screen door. Sandie met him at the courthouse when he was pulling permits for his bar. Christine used to do PR for friends of his and met him way back when.

But me? Save a concert of his or two, I’ve never even been in the same zip code as him. In fact, I’ve long proclaimed that I’m the only person in Detroit that has never met Kid Rock.

But that all changed this week. I was going to meet Kid Rock and finally – finally - I would have my own bona fide Kid Rock story to tell. Read the rest of this entry »

I walked 70,130 steps last week. Per the pedometer, that’s over 24 miles (it’s actually a bit more).

I started mentoring with my CEO at work a few months back. One of his requirements of being mentored is that I agreed to take on the challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day. And, let me tell you, we didn’t build up to it. One day I was walking, oh… about 2,000 steps – and the next I was expected to be doing 10,000.

And I did it. Read the rest of this entry »

Whenever my friend, Christine, and I get together you will, more often than not, find us doing the following:

  • Eating Indian food
  • Shopping for makeup
  • Drinking Starbucks
  • Driving aimlessly for hours and talking

In lieu of actually crafting a blog post, I think I’ll devote Fridays to pulling in some of my favorites from my old blog on Diaryland. This gem may, or may not, be the reason I no longer work for the ‘poopuware. I’ll restrain from adding the original “artwork” that accompanied it, as well… a full on photo of my thong-clad ass.

Oh, yes I did.

We either need a hot tub, or we need to move someplace where the temp doesn’t fall below 50. Because, baby, it’s cold outside and winter hasn’t even really begun to rear it’s ugly head around these parts… and I am freezing! My thighs are in a constant state of ache after every morning and nighttime walk – just holding in the cold.

Now, in the spirit of “we need,” here’s a big ol’ list of “I wants” for the moment… Read the rest of this entry »

I’m feeling decidedly blue today – post-election blues, a cold is coming on blues, it’s freaking cold in Michigan blues. So maybe it’s time to count my blessings and remember all that was good about the day.

Today, I am thankful for: Read the rest of this entry »

I am an enlightened woman. I spend my days planning and executing online engagement for a Detroit nonprofit where I am a co-founder of the Diversity Council, part of the succession plan for senior leadership and was recently awarded an Employee Recognition Award for my fund raising work. Prior to my life as a Digital Diva, I worked to fund raise monies for AIDS-related nonprofits. I am a leftist, liberal, pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-ACLU, agnostic. I am outspoken against racism, sexism, ageism and just about any other “ism” you can imagine.

Oh, what the hell. It’s NaBloPoMo – let’s dust this thing off and pretend that someone still reads it.

My mom sent an email a while back and asked for my comments. I had a response – oh, did I have a response. But, I had so much to say that I never responded. Didn’t have the time, at the time, to give my full feedback. Aren’t we all lucky that I decided to pipe up today and say something – the same day that NaBloPoMo starts. Woot, content!

I ripped out the carpet in the stairwell a while ago following the great Cain Ate Raw Turkey & Messed the Carpet incident of 2010. (That, by the way, was all the Mister’s fault.) I considered refinishing the wood on the staircase but, as you will soon see, it’s July 18th and the Mister has yet to put away the Christmas decorations. The likelihood of getting the stairs refinished before old age? Nill to not fucking likely.

I’m heading out of town at the end of the month for a few days.  And as much as I am looking forward to a some travel, you know what I’m not looking forward to? That look on people’s faces when you meet them for the first time and tell them you are from Detroit. You know the look – one-third shock, two parts pity.
